October #1 - A little Дякую on Tag der Deutschen Einheit
Human Rights Filmfestival, Festival of Lights, 🇺🇦Art and Music and Restaurant Tips by Ana aka Russischraclette!
Dear all,
Somehow, in the course of a very hectic day (me being stuck in Frankfurt am Main Central station due to a Totalausfall!) I crossed the 500 subscriber mark!
In the metrics of TikTok and Instagram 500 seem like very little - But think about it, all our inboxes are already exploding. I feel deeply grateful for all 500+ of you, who still trusted me enough to share your e-mail address with me! It’s a true honor!
This is a good moment to take a look at why I am doing this. With sharing possibilities to experience East European Culture, I do not only hope to bridge parts of Europe but also to contribute to a more authentic and respectful portrayal and treatment of all the countries east from Germany. Especially today, on Tag der Deutschen Einheit, I am truly concerned by outdates narratives about “the East” still being so persistent and influential. So, let’s bring Europe closer together and let’s allow stories to shape our minds, not stereotypes! <3
Thank you to everyone who supports my mission! You reading along means the world to me. If you like my work, I would appreciate you sharing it with one or two friends, who like culture just as much as we do!
So, the only thing left to say before we start is:
Дякую, спасибо, hvala and dziękuję!

🎞️ Human Rights Filmfestival Berlin
This year’s Human Rights Filmfestival Berlin centers around the theme of "Choosing Humanity," showcasing film on current global issues and diverse perspectives from around the world. My 3 picks for you:
FOREST
Near the border to Belarus a family from Poland experiences how their home becomes the scene of migration policy. A story about migration, EU external borders, and humanity.
DEMOCRACY NOIR
The right-wing populist Viktor Orbán has ruled Hungary for 14 years. Since then, he has been purposefully dismantling institutions and trying to establish a nation state that is neither liberal nor democratic. Three woman are fighting against the destruction of democracy in Hungary. A portrait of three fearless women, whoo resist.
NOCH BIN ICH NICHT, WER ICH SEIN MÖCHTE
Libuše Jarcovjáková's pursuit of happiness and personal freedom is captured through thousands of analog photos documenting her resistance in 1968 Prague and her life in West Berlin. Director Klára Tasovská transforms these private archives into an unfiltered chronicle of a woman's identity journey between East and West, making the personal political.

🥟 Restaurant Tips by Ana @russischraclette
Years ago I dsicovered a content creator on Instagram - Ana, a pickle-enthusiast and creative cook, who cooks East European recipes and dishes from all over the world. What I liked so much about her is how she told her personal stories related to her family while making the food look more instagrammable than any other cook could do at that time. Now, her accounts have grown incredibly and she even published a beautiful cookbook ANUSHKA. Also, she has great taste and curated her favorite East European Berlin-based restaurants for us. I am excited to share the first one, with more to come in the next weeks:
ANASTASIA
In this restaurant you can expect not only our favorite dumplings such as Varenyky and Pelmeni but also Uzbek main dishes such as Plov and Lag‘mon as well as plates to share among 2 people!
