FILM & CINEMA
GREEN BORDER is coming to Germany
Green Border is the latest work by three-time Oscar nominee Agnieszka Holland. It is a story about how each of us can unexpectedly find ourselves in a liminal situation and be forced to make choices between good and evil. The film is a tale of fiction, but its script was based on real events happening right next door to us - in the so-called green zone between Poland and Belarus. Preparation for the film involved hundreds of hours of documentary analysis, interviews with refugees, border guards, border residents, activists and experts. The film interweaves three perspectives - those of a Syrian family, Polish activists and border guards.
The film will run in multiple cinemas over Berlin, starting February, such as Hackesche Höfe, IL Kino, Kino Krokodil.
The German premiere will take place in Delphi Palast on 30th of January, 19:00.

Documentaries from Ukraine - 23rd and 30th of January., 6:30pm
Ukrainian Society at Humboldt University is hosting two more documentary screenings for free. On 23rd of January Life to the limit will be screened - because of technical problems last week, the screening was postponed. The film follows two filmmakers who, after their Oscar-nominated film "Winter on Fire" in 2016, returned from the glamour of Los Angeles straight back to the conflict in Eastern Ukraine. Five years later, these veterans utilize memories and self-recorded footage, unraveling the origins of the war against Ukraine, shedding light on how such conflict emerged. On 30th of January you have the chance to see 20 Days in Mariupol - a heartbreaking documentation of the first 20 days in the city of Mariupol after the full-scale invasion, showing the devastating fates of the civil society, filmed by three American Press Journalists.

The conversation accompanies the current exhibition "Seeing without light" by Nadia Kaabi-Linke at the Hamburger Bahnhof. Their discussion will focus on the so-called "Spezfond" of the National Art Museum of Ukraine. The works in this fund were censored in the 1920s and 1930s and confiscated by the Soviet government.
