🍿 “Ukraine Known Unknown” at ACUDkino
Another half a year to wait until the next Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin - though I have good news for you: UFF Berlin helps us to bridge the time with "Ukraine Known Unknown", a three-day documentary film series that spotlights lesser-known but prominent figures in Ukrainian culture and art. With this project, UFF aims to draw attention to these talented artists and provide them with a platform for their work to be seen by a wider audience. The documentaries will be accompanied by short lectures by experts in the fields of music, art, cultural heritage and literature. Details and Registration here.
🎥 GoEast FESTIVAL OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN FILM: 26.04.-02.05.23, Wiesbaden
Ever thought of visiting the beautiful city of Wiesbaden? Now is the time! GoEast Film Festival is an annual festival celebrating Central and Eastern European film in Wiesbaden. The festival presents a wide range of films, including features, documentaries, and shorts. It also offers workshops, talks, and panel discussions with filmmakers and experts in the film industry. This years edition of the festival will focus on decolonization of post-soviet and soviet film. More about the festival here.
🎞 Retrospektive Kira Muratowa at Kino Arsenal
Kino Arsenal is showing 10 remarkable films by Ukrainian filmmaker Kira Muratova this April. Despite facing censorship and financial constraints, Muratova created a unique and independent body of work that absorbed and transformed the realities of its time. Her work often explored themes of female longing, disillusionment, and loneliness while deconstructing conventional narration and exposing the corruption and moral bankruptcy of society. 📽 Screening “When Spring came to Bucha”: 24.04.23, City Kino Wedding
The documentary film "When Spring Came to Bucha" by Mila Teshaieva and Marcus Lenz will be screened at the invitation of the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin on 24th of April. The documentary follows the residents of Bucha, Borodyanka, and Irpin as they rebuild their lives and homes after the russian army's retreat, which left destruction and loss in its wake. The film portrays the resilience and strength of the Ukrainian people in overcoming the trauma of war. You can find details here.
